July 12, 2016 – The aeration and mixing system recently installed in the Georgia Hwy 36 ground storage tank looks to be doing its job of removing trihalomethanes, a type of disinfection by-product. Testing shows a 31% reduction in total trihalomethanes at our regular test sites from June 2015 to June 2016.
The average total trihalomethane result from this June’s testing was 59.42 parts per billion. This compares to an average of 86.50 parts per billion for June 2015 testing. The EPA’s maximum allowed running annual average for trihalomethanes is 80.0 parts per billion.
The water system has been in compliance with the EPA standards for trihalomethanes for each quarterly testing (December 2015, March 2016, and June 2016) since the September 2015 violation.
