Boil Water Advisory for Old Bethel Road Area Lifted

Posted on: December 30th, 2015

December 31, 2015 – The Boil Water Advisory for the Old Bethel Road area has been lifted as of 6:50 p.m. on December 31, 2015.  Bacteriological sampling has been completed and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division has approved  cancellation of the advisory.
The Butts County Water Authority’s main line on Old Bethel Road was struck by lightning lon December 30, 2015. Crews are working now to repair the damaged line. Approximately 120 customers are out of water.
Customers in the Cottonwood Estates subdivision, Buster Brown Road, and most of Old Bethel Road will have no water until the main is repaired. A potential health hazard may exist in these areas of zero pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into the water distribution system.
In order to protect the customers from a potential health hazard, all customers that have experienced water outage and/or low water pressures are advised to “boil” all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil. Customers should continue to boil their water until they are notified by the Water Authority that the water system has been restored to full operation, and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption.
