May 11, 2016 – The Authority’s aeration/mixing system that reduces trihalomethanes in finished water has been operational since April 27th and is showing significant reductions in detected trihalomethanes.
“We are really happy to have the new system up and running in time for hot weather, ” said Authority general manager Marcie Seleb. “Disinfection products like trihalomethanes are much more likely to form in the warmest months of the year.” The Authority will continue to post updates and data as more information is collected.
Water users will be glad to know that the Authority has been in compliance with federal standards for trihalomethanes in the two testing cycles carried out since September 2015 (December 2015 and February 2016). Up to 80 parts per billion trihalomethanes are allowed; the September average was 75.7 and the December average was 71.5. These testing cycles took place before the aeration/mixing system was installed.
