August 10, 2016 – The Butts County Water Authority’s main water line on Barnett’s Bridge Road near Harris Road ruptured this morning around 8:00 a.m. This break was caused by a lightning strike.
The main break interrupted water service on parts of Barnett’s Bridge Road, Harris Road, Fox Drive, Stanfield Road, Garner Road, Short Bridge Road, Tall Pines Drive, Spring Drive, and Riverside Road. The line has been repaired and water service is back on, but we need to do a bacteria test to confirm that water on these roads is bacteria free before customers begin using it to drink or cook without boiling it first. This test takes twenty-four hours to complete.
This notice is being issued to comply with State of Georgia requirements. A potential health hazard may exist in areas that experienced zero pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality from homes into the water distribution system.
In order to protect customers from a potential health hazard, all customers that have experienced water outage and/or low water pressures are advised to boil all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.
We expect that this “boil water” notice will be lifted by 4 p.m. on August 11, 2016 when testing is completed. You may check our web site at www.buttswsa.com or call our office at 770-775-0042 to confirm.
